The Cavern is a luxury villa built inside a natural cave amid 50 acres of lush tropical forest in Sri Lanka's highland region. Operated by Serendipity Retreats, the villa accommodates up to six guests (seven with an extra bed) across three en-suite bedrooms. Built within the natural rock face, the villa features a living room carved into the cave with a suspended designer fireplace, a dining room elevated inside the cave with full-wall windows overlooking forest, a private pool, a heated mineral water spa pool sourced from an onsite spring, jacuzzi, sauna and outdoor yoga deck. Staff includes a villa manager and resident naturalist, private chef, housekeepers, butlers and security. Daily meals, most beverages and laundry are included. The property has a 5-star rating across 14 reviews.
There is genuinely nothing else like this in Sri Lanka. The villa is built inside a natural cave, meaning you are sleeping within a geological formation while looking out at forest through full-wall windows. The natural stone walls and ceilings are the architecture. The contrast between the cave interior and the landscape outside creates a sense of enclosure and privacy that no conventional villa can replicate. Every room sits within the cave structure. The 50-acre organic farm produces the vegetables, herbs and ingredients the chef uses daily. The mineral water spa pool is naturally sourced and heated to 38-40°C. Manoj, the resident naturalist, offers guided walks through the forest and farm with genuine depth of knowledge.
