Unforgettable Travel Itinerary

Day 1-2

Paro

Arrive Paro. Afternoon: Rinpung Dzong and river walk. Day 2: Full day hike to Tiger's Nest. Return via Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples, founded in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo.

Day 3

Paro to Thimphu

Drive to Thimphu. Visit the Buddha Dordenma statue at Kuenselphodrang (51.5 metres, gilded, overlooking the valley). Walk to the Tashichho Dzong and Textile Academy. Evening at leisure in the capital.

Day 4

Thimphu to Punakha via Dochu La

Morning: Folk Heritage Museum and weekend market if timing allows. Drive over the Dochu La pass. Afternoon arrival in the Punakha Valley. Walk the riverside to settle in.

Day 5

Punakha

Punakha Dzong at dawn — the early light on the white fortress above the river confluence is unmatched. Afternoon: Chimi Lhakhang across the paddy fields, followed by an evening on the Mo Chhu riverbank.

Day 6-7

Phobjikha Valley

Drive from Punakha to the Phobjikha Valley, crossing the Black Mountains. Two nights in the valley. Day 6 afternoon: Black-Necked Crane Visitor Centre (October to February) and valley floor walk. Day 7: Morning visit to Gangtey Monastery — the largest school of Nyingma Buddhism in Bhutan. Afternoon: hike the valley trail through farmhouses, prayer flags and yak pastures.

Day 8-9

Return to Paro — Departure

Return drive from Phobjikha to Paro. Day 8: Paro National Museum above Rinpung Dzong, final shopping in Paro town. Day 9: Morning walk or sunrise at Rinpung Dzong before departure from Paro International Airport.
