Camp Kooncha is a boutique jungle camp at Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar district, northern Rajasthan — the closest tiger reserve to Delhi at approximately 200 km. The reserve is smaller and less visited than Ranthambore, with a tiger reintroduction programme that has successfully re-established a breeding population. Camp Kooncha is a RARE India community property, offering tented accommodation in the buffer zone. For LocalHi clients arriving in India via Delhi or combining a short Rajasthan extension with an NCR visit, Sariska offers a tiger experience without the 6-hour journey to Ranthambore.
Sariska is underrated precisely because Ranthambore dominates the tiger safari narrative in Rajasthan. The result is that vehicle numbers are significantly lower at Sariska — a better wildlife experience for guests who value solitude over the certainty of a sighting. Camp Kooncha is small and owner-managed, which means the experience is personal rather than operational. The surrounding Alwar landscape is historically significant — the Bhangarh Fort (one of India's most atmospheric ruined fortresses) is 35 km from the camp.
Tented accommodation in a jungle setting. Boutique scale. Personalised hosting. Proximity to Sariska Tiger Reserve. Quiet, low-tourism environment compared to Ranthambore.
Morning and evening tiger safaris in Sariska Reserve. Visit to Bhangarh Fort. Siliserh Lake (Alwar's royal lake) for an afternoon drive. Neemrana Fort Palace (60 km) for those combining with a heritage stop on the Delhi-Jaipur corridor.
October to June (unlike most national parks, Sariska does not close for monsoon). Best sightings November to May. LocalHi pairs Camp Kooncha with Neemrana Fort Palace and Tijara Fort Palace for a Delhi-corridor heritage and wildlife journey that covers three significant properties in two nights — a compact, high-quality alternative to the full Rajasthan circuit for short-stay travellers.
