Rohet Garh is a 17th-century fortified manor in the village of Rohet, 40 km south of Jodhpur, run by the Singh Deo family of the House of Rohet — one of Rajasthan's most respected equestrian families. The property is the anchor of the House of Rohet portfolio (which also includes Mihir Garh and The Rohet House in Jodhpur city). It is best known for its Marwari horse-breeding programme, its direct relationship with the village community, and desert rides into the surrounding countryside at dawn.
Rohet is not a converted palace repurposed for tourism. It is a working estate where the family still lives, the horses are still bred and trained, and the village relationship has been maintained for generations. The riding programme is serious — guests can join early morning desert rides led by family members or experienced guides, some lasting several days on horseback through the surrounding landscape. Bruce Chatwin stayed here; William Dalrymple has written about it. The library carries the weight of people who came to understand Rajasthan rather than photograph it.
Heritage rooms in the original fort building, each individually decorated with the family's antique collection. A courtyard for evening meals. The cuisine is Marwari home cooking — different from the tourist-facing Rajasthani thali in every important way. Village visits, camel rides, and desert jeep excursions complement the equestrian programme.
Dawn desert ride on a Marwari horse — book through LocalHi well in advance as this is the most in-demand experience. Village walk with a family member or senior staff. Dinner in the courtyard under the desert sky.
October to March. LocalHi pairs Rohet Garh with Mihir Garh (40 km further south, also House of Rohet) for clients who want a deeper equestrian and desert immersion across two properties. It connects naturally to Rawla Narlai (south) and RAAS Jodhpur or Bal Samand (north toward the city).
What is Rohet Garh?
A 17th-century fortified manor in Rohet village, 40 km from Jodhpur, run by the Singh Deo family. It is the original property of the House of Rohet and is known for its Marwari horse-breeding programme and desert riding.
Is Rohet Garh good for horse riding?
Yes. The property operates one of Rajasthan's most respected Marwari horse-riding programmes, with options ranging from a single morning ride to multi-day desert journeys on horseback.
How far is Rohet Garh from Jodhpur?
Approximately 40 km, around 45 minutes by road.
What is the difference between Rohet Garh and Mihir Garh?
Both are House of Rohet properties. Rohet Garh is the ancestral village estate — grounded, community-embedded, equestrian. Mihir Garh is a purpose-built desert castle further south — more theatrical, more remote. LocalHi combines both in the same journey.
