The most common question people ask before booking a Kashmir trip is not where to stay or what to see. It is what is this going to cost. Most online estimates are either too vague to be useful or anchored to a package price that does not reflect what a real independent trip costs in 2026.
This guide breaks down the actual cost of a 7-day Kashmir trip by category: flights, accommodation, transport, activities, meals, and the hidden charges most cost guides do not mention. The numbers are verified against current 2026 prices. You will know exactly what to budget before you book anything.
Tell us your group size, travel month, and departure city. We'll send you a line-by-line Kashmir cost breakdown within 24 hours, free, no obligation.
For two people sharing a room and a private cab, departing from Delhi, a 7-day Kashmir trip costs roughly Rs. 32,000 to Rs. 40,000 per person at budget, Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 75,000 per person at mid-range, and Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 per person at the premium end. These figures include flights, accommodation for six nights, a private cab for seven days, main activities including the Gulmarg Gondola, and meals.
A few things that move these numbers significantly: your departure city (Mumbai and Bangalore add Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 15,000 to the flight cost), the season you travel in (May and December are the most expensive months), and your group size (four people sharing an Innova costs less per person than two people in a sedan). Each of these is broken down in detail below.

Flights are the biggest variable in a Kashmir budget and the category where booking timing makes the most difference. The Srinagar airport handles direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata. All other cities require a connection through one of these hubs.
Delhi to Srinagar
This is the most competitive route and offers the lowest fares. Return economy fares in March shoulder season run Rs. 8,500 to Rs. 12,000. In peak May the same route runs Rs. 13,000 to Rs. 19,000. In December, which is peak ski and holiday season, fares climb to Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 26,000 for the Christmas and New Year window. January and February outside the holiday window are more manageable at Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 16,000 return.
Mumbai to Srinagar
Return fares from Mumbai run Rs. 17,000 to Rs. 23,000 in March, Rs. 24,000 to Rs. 30,000 in peak May, and Rs. 19,000 to Rs. 35,000 in December depending on how close to Christmas you are travelling.
Bangalore to Srinagar
Bangalore to Srinagar is the most expensive major route. Return fares run Rs. 14,000 to Rs. 21,000 in March, Rs. 23,000 to Rs. 32,000 in May, and Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 41,000 in peak December. Booking 6 to 8 weeks in advance consistently saves Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 10,000 per person on this route compared to booking 2 weeks out.
The Booking Window That Matters
Across all routes, booking 6 to 8 weeks in advance is the single most reliable way to reduce flight costs. Last-minute fares on the Srinagar route spike sharply, particularly in peak season when capacity is limited. For the Christmas and New Year window, book at least 3 months ahead. For the Tulip Festival window in late March and April, book as early as January or February.
A standard 7-day Kashmir itinerary uses roughly two to three nights in Srinagar, one night in Gulmarg if staying overnight rather than day-tripping, and two nights in Pahalgam. The cost range across these three locations is wide, so the breakdown below covers each destination separately.
Srinagar: Dal Lake Houseboats and Boulevard Road Hotels
For a houseboat on Dal Lake, budget options in backwater channels start from around Rs. 3,000 per room per night. These are functional but are not on the main lake. Properly lake-facing houseboats that offer the full Dal Lake experience start at Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 8,000 per room per night for mid-range options. Sukoon Houseboat, which is the most consistently recommended premium houseboat directly on Dal Lake, runs Rs. 21,000 to Rs. 25,000 per night. Taj Dal View, the strongest luxury hotel option on the lake, runs Rs. 24,000 to Rs. 38,000 per night depending on room category and season.
For mid-range hotel stays on Boulevard Road rather than a houseboat, Fortune Resort Heevan is a reliable 4-star option at Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 15,000 per night with a private jetty for Shikara access. Budget guesthouses on Boulevard Road start from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 4,000 per night.
Important: Srinagar hotel prices rise roughly 30 percent across all categories during the Tulip Festival window from late March into mid-April. Factor this into your budget if your dates fall in this period.
Gulmarg: From Ski Resorts to Budget Guesthouses
Most families and couples doing a 7-day itinerary treat Gulmarg as a day trip from Srinagar. If you want an overnight stay for early Gondola access or a ski-focused trip, the options are as follows. The Khyber Himalayan Resort and Spa, the only five-star in Gulmarg, runs Rs. 46,200 to Rs. 55,000 per night in peak ski season. Highlands Park, the 130-year heritage property, runs Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 22,000 per night depending on season. Budget options like Hotel Hilltop start from Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 6,000 per night.
One cost to confirm before booking any Gulmarg property in winter: the heating surcharge. Budget and mid-range properties often add Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,500 per day for central heating or a wood-fired Bukhari. This is separate from the room rate and is not always mentioned upfront.
Pahalgam: Riverside Resorts and Guesthouses
Pahalgam accommodation ranges from basic guesthouses at Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 3,500 per night to the Radisson Golf Resort and Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels Pine N Peak at Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 28,000 per night at the premium end. The mid-range band is well served: Hotel Heevan Pahalgam runs Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 10,000 per night and is a reliable, well-reviewed option for families.
If you are visiting Pahalgam between July and August during the Amarnath Yatra season, book months in advance. Prices across all categories spike significantly and properties fill up fast once the Yatra dates are confirmed.

A private cab for sightseeing is the standard and most practical transport arrangement for a Kashmir trip. Shared taxis and public buses exist but are not practical for a 7-day itinerary that covers Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam with day trips.
Daily Cab Rates
A standard sedan for sightseeing runs Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 4,500 per day. A premium SUV or Innova Crysta runs Rs. 5,500 to Rs. 6,500 per day. A Tempo Traveller for groups of six to eight runs Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 9,000 per day. These rates cover the driver and fuel for the planned route. Confirm the daily rate and exactly which stops are included before you begin.
How Group Size Affects Per-Person Transport Cost
Transport is the cost category that rewards larger groups most significantly. Two people in a sedan at Rs. 4,500 per day works out to Rs. 2,250 per person. Four people in an Innova at Rs. 6,500 per day works out to Rs. 1,625 per person. Six people in a Tempo Traveller at Rs. 8,000 per day works out to Rs. 1,333 per person. Over a 7-day trip, the difference between a couple and a group of six adds up to Rs. 13,000 or more per person just on transport.
The Local Cab Rule
Outside taxis registered in other states are not permitted for local sightseeing in Kashmir. A cab from Delhi or Punjab can drop you at your Srinagar hotel from the airport, but all sightseeing must be done in a registered J&K vehicle. Book your local cab through a Srinagar-based operator or through your travel planner before you arrive. Arranging this on the ground at the airport is possible but adds uncertainty to Day 1.
Airport Transfers
Airport transfers are separate from the daily sightseeing cab and typically cost Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,200 one way from Srinagar Airport to Dal Lake. If you are arriving late at night, confirm the transfer in advance. Late-night transfers can run Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 1,800.

Gulmarg Gondola
The Gondola is the single most important activity booking on any Kashmir trip. Phase 1 from Gulmarg base to Kongdori costs Rs. 810 per person. Phase 2 from Kongdori up to Apharwat Peak at 4,000 metres costs Rs. 1,010 per person. The Phase 1 and Phase 2 combined total is Rs. 1,820 per person and represents the full Gondola experience. Tickets are booked online only at jammukashmircablecar.com. There are no offline counters. Same-day Tatkal tickets are available at the waiting hall from 9 AM to 3 PM at a premium of Rs. 300 per ticket per phase, subject to capacity.
In peak ski season (January to February) and peak summer (May to June), Gondola slots sell out on busy days. Pre-booking is the only reliable approach.
Shikara Rides on Dal Lake
Shikara rides are negotiated at the ghat rather than booked in advance. The going rate for a one-hour ride is Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,000 when negotiated before boarding. Negotiate the price and duration explicitly before you step onto the boat. A sunset Shikara ride on Day 1 is worth every rupee of the Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,000 it costs and sets the tone for the whole trip.
Skiing and Snow Activities in Gulmarg
Beginner ski lessons in Gulmarg run Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,500 for a half-day session including instructor time. Equipment rental for a jacket and boots runs Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,500 per day. Ski hire for skis and poles is an additional Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000 per day. These rates are available locally from multiple operators around the Gondola base and do not need to be pre-booked except in peak ski season.
Pahalgam Day Trip Transport
The taxi circuit covering Betaab Valley, Aru Valley, and Chandanwari from Pahalgam town runs Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 1,500 for a half-day hire. This is a local taxi arrangement separate from your main cab. Pony rides in Pahalgam have official government rates ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,500 depending on the route. Ask to see the official rate card if you are quoted a higher number.
Garden and Attraction Entry Fees
Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh entry is Rs. 50 per person per garden. The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden entry is Rs. 75 for adults and Rs. 30 for children, open from late March to mid-April. Betaab Valley entry is Rs. 50 for Indian nationals and Rs. 200 for foreign nationals. Hazratbal Mosque and Shah Hamdan Mosque in the Old City have no entry fee.
Kashmiri food is not expensive relative to the quality. A proper sit-down Wazwan meal at a restaurant like Mughal Darbar in Srinagar runs Rs. 300 to Rs. 500 per person. A full day of meals at budget guesthouses and local restaurants costs Rs. 600 to Rs. 800 per person. A mid-range day with restaurant meals and one nicer dinner runs Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,500 per person. At premium hotels and resort restaurants, meals at the property itself run Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,500 per person per day.
Kahwah, the local saffron and cardamom green tea, is served everywhere and often complimentary at houseboats and guesthouses. Street food around the Old City in Srinagar is very reasonably priced. Gulmarg has fewer independent restaurant options, particularly in winter when many smaller places close. Hotel restaurants in Gulmarg are more consistent.

The figures below assume two people sharing a room and a private cab, departing from Delhi. Larger groups reduce per-person transport costs significantly, as covered in the transport section above.
Budget: Rs. 32,000 to Rs. 40,000 Per Person
Flights from Delhi in March at Rs. 10,000 return. Six nights of accommodation sharing a room at an average of Rs. 3,000 per room per night works out to Rs. 9,000 per person. A standard sedan cab for 7 days at Rs. 4,000 per day split between two people is Rs. 14,000 per person for the full trip, or Rs. 10,500 for the driving days. Activities including Gondola Phase 1 and 2, Shikara, and garden entries at Rs. 3,000 per person. Meals at Rs. 700 to Rs. 800 per day for 7 days at Rs. 5,600 per person. Total: approximately Rs. 38,100 per person.
Mid-Range: Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 75,000 Per Person
Flights from Delhi in May at Rs. 15,000 return. Six nights at 3 to 4-star hotels and a mid-range Dal Lake houseboat averaging Rs. 8,000 per room per night works out to Rs. 24,000 per person. A premium sedan or standard Innova at Rs. 4,500 to Rs. 5,000 per day split between two people over 7 days works out to Rs. 13,500 per person. Activities at Rs. 7,500 per person including full Gondola, Shikara, Pahalgam taxi circuit, and garden entries. Meals at Rs. 1,200 per day for 7 days at Rs. 8,400 per person. Total: approximately Rs. 68,400 per person.
Premium: Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 Per Person
Flights from Delhi or Mumbai in December at Rs. 25,000 return. Six nights at premium properties including Sukoon Houseboat or Taj Dal View in Srinagar, The Khyber in Gulmarg, and Radisson Golf Resort in Pahalgam averaging Rs. 25,000 per room per night works out to Rs. 75,000 per person. An Innova Crysta or premium SUV at Rs. 6,000 per day for 7 days split between two people at Rs. 18,000 per person. Activities at Rs. 12,000 per person including full Gondola, ski lessons, Shikara, and premium experiences. Meals at Rs. 2,000 per day for 7 days at Rs. 14,000 per person. Total: approximately Rs. 1,44,000 per person.

The standard cost breakdown covers the obvious categories. These are the charges that catch travellers off guard and are worth accounting for before you finalise your budget.

The season you travel in affects every cost category simultaneously: flights, accommodation, and activity demand all move together. Here is how the total budget shifts by season for a mid-range trip.
March (Shoulder Season)
The lowest-cost window for a quality trip. Flights from Delhi run Rs. 8,500 to Rs. 12,000. Hotel rates are mid-range. Gondola is not sold out. The Tulip Festival has not yet opened in early March, which keeps Srinagar accommodation at normal rates. Total mid-range per person: Rs. 55,000 to Rs. 65,000.
April (Tulip Festival Peak)
Flights begin climbing as the festival window opens. Srinagar hotel rates rise 30 percent. The Gondola is in demand. Total mid-range per person: Rs. 65,000 to Rs. 75,000.
May to June (Peak Family Season)
Highest flight costs of the year. Hotels at peak rates. Gondola busy. Total mid-range per person: Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 85,000 depending on exact dates and booking lead time.
September to October (Autumn Sweet Spot)
Flight costs drop back toward shoulder season rates. Hotels 20 to 30 percent below summer peak. Gondola is less busy. Total mid-range per person: Rs. 58,000 to Rs. 70,000. One of the best value windows in the year. See the full season-wise breakdown for more detail on each month.
December to January (Winter Peak)
Christmas and New Year window is the highest-cost period of the year. Flights from Delhi push to Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 26,000. The Khyber in Gulmarg is at peak rates. Outside the holiday window, January mid-month is more manageable. Total mid-range per person outside holidays: Rs. 65,000 to Rs. 75,000. Over the Christmas window: Rs. 85,000 to Rs. 1,00,000.
How much does a 7-day Kashmir trip cost per person from Delhi?
Budget: Rs. 32,000 to Rs. 40,000 per person travelling in March. Mid-range: Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 75,000 per person. Premium: Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 per person. These figures include return flights, six nights of accommodation, a private cab for the trip, main activities, and meals.
Is Kashmir an expensive destination compared to other hill stations?
Kashmir is 20 to 30 percent more expensive than Shimla or Manali for an equivalent trip, primarily because flights to Srinagar cost more than road-accessible hill stations. Within Kashmir, food and local activities are reasonably priced. The cost difference is concentrated in flights and, at the premium end, in accommodation.
What is the cheapest time to visit Kashmir?
March before the Tulip Festival window (before March 26) and September are the two best value months. Flights are at shoulder-season rates, hotels have not hit peak pricing, and the valley is genuinely beautiful in both windows.
How much does the Gulmarg Gondola cost in 2026?
Phase 1 from Gulmarg base to Kongdori costs Rs. 810 per person. Phase 2 from Kongdori to Apharwat Peak costs Rs. 1,010 per person. The combined Phase 1 and Phase 2 ticket is Rs. 1,820 per person. Tickets must be booked online at jammukashmircablecar.com. Same-day Tatkal tickets at the waiting hall cost an additional Rs. 300 per ticket per phase.
Is a Kashmir trip cheaper to book as a package or independently?
It depends on the package. Fixed group tour packages often cut costs on accommodation and transport but limit flexibility significantly. A well-planned independent trip or a customised trip through a direct operator like LocalHi, which negotiates directly with hotels and cab operators, is typically comparable in cost to a packaged tour while giving you full flexibility on itinerary.
How much should I budget for food in Kashmir per day?
Rs. 600 to Rs. 800 per person per day covers full meals at local restaurants and guesthouses. Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,500 per day covers mid-range restaurant dining with one nicer dinner. Rs. 2,000 per day and above covers dining primarily at hotel restaurants in premium properties.
Are there any costs in Kashmir that are easy to miss?
Yes: GST at 18 percent on stays above Rs. 7,500 per night which is often excluded from headline rates, the winter heating surcharge at budget and mid-range properties, the Gondola Tatkal premium for same-day bookings, and the separate local taxi cost for the Pahalgam valley circuit which is not covered by your main cab. These are covered in detail in the hidden costs section above.

Kashmir is genuinely accessible at almost every budget. The difference between a Rs. 35,000 trip and a Rs. 1,50,000 trip is real, but the valley itself does not change. The houseboat in the morning mist, the Gondola views, and the Pahalgam river walk are available to every traveller regardless of which budget tier they are in. Getting the numbers clear before you book means the trip itself can be exactly what you planned for.
