Amankora Paro is the original lodge in Aman's Bhutan circuit, set in a quiet pine forest in the Paro Valley, approximately 30 minutes from Paro International Airport. Opened in 2004, it marked Aman's first venture into Bhutan and remains one of the country’s most established luxury stays. The lodge comprises 24 suites built in traditional Bhutanese style using rammed-earth walls and timber, paired with Aman's minimalist interiors — wood-burning stoves, terrazzo-clad baths and king-sized beds. It functions both as a standalone stay and as the starting point for multi-valley Amankora journeys across Bhutan.
Unlike ridge-top luxury hotels built for panoramic views, Amankora Paro is deliberately set within a blue pine forest, prioritising privacy and stillness over spectacle. A mountain stream runs through the property, and the lodge’s design centres around quiet immersion in nature. Its proximity to Paro makes it the most logistically convenient of the Amankora lodges, while still feeling removed from the town. It also serves as a primary base for visiting Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Bhutan’s most significant cultural site.
24 suites set across a forested property, each with a combined bedroom and living area centred around a traditional bukhari (wood-burning stove). A two-storey spa with treatment rooms, steam and sauna. A glass-walled yoga studio overlooking the forest. Dining is typically all-inclusive, with Bhutanese, Indian and Western menus served in a central lodge building or privately on request. The experience is quiet, spacious and highly service-led.
The hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang Palphug), accessed via a 15–20 minute drive to the trailhead followed by a 2–4 hour hike. Guided explorations of the Paro Valley including Kyichu Lhakhang and Paro Dzong. Traditional hot stone baths, archery sessions and forest walks arranged through the lodge.
March to May and September to November offer the clearest weather and best conditions for travel. Amankora Paro is typically used as the entry or exit point of a Bhutan journey, combined with Thimphu (1.5 hours), Punakha (4–5 hours via Dochula Pass), and onward to Gangtey or Bumthang for longer itineraries.
