Six Senses Bumthang is the easternmost lodge in the Six Senses Bhutan circuit, set in the Bumthang Valley near the Chamkar Chhu river. Surrounded by forests, farmland and monastery routes, the lodge offers a quieter and more culturally immersive experience compared to the western valleys. Designed with a contemporary interpretation of traditional Bhutanese farmhouse architecture, the property integrates natural materials with open, light-filled spaces.
Unlike the more visited western regions of Bhutan, Bumthang is defined by its deep cultural and spiritual significance. The lodge’s location places it within close reach of some of Bhutan’s oldest monasteries and religious sites, making it the most culturally focused of the Six Senses properties. The experience here is slower, with an emphasis on exploration, festivals and connection to Bhutan’s spiritual traditions rather than landscape alone.
Suites and villas arranged across a spacious property, designed to maximise views of the surrounding valley and forests. Interiors feature natural materials, open layouts and large windows, with a balance of contemporary comfort and Bhutanese design elements. The Six Senses Spa offers wellness programmes and treatments inspired by Himalayan healing traditions. Dining focuses on Bhutanese, regional and international cuisine using locally sourced ingredients.
Visits to Jakar Dzong overlooking the valley. Exploration of Jambay Lhakhang and Kurjey Lhakhang, two of Bhutan’s most significant temples. Participation in local festivals (seasonal). Guided walks through monastery routes, villages and forest trails. Wellness therapies and spa programmes tailored to relaxation and recovery.
March to May and September to November offer the most favourable weather, with festival periods adding cultural depth. Six Senses Bumthang is typically included in longer Bhutan itineraries, combined with Gangtey, Punakha, Thimphu and Paro as part of a multi-lodge journey across the country.
