Six Senses Punakha is set on a hillside above the Mo Chhu river, overlooking terraced paddy fields in Bhutan’s Punakha Valley. Known within the Six Senses circuit as the “Flying Farmhouse,” the lodge blends traditional Bhutanese farmhouse architecture with contemporary design. Suites and villas are spread across a landscaped property designed to maximise views of the valley, offering a warmer, more open setting compared to the higher-altitude lodges in Paro and Thimphu.
The defining feature of Six Senses Punakha is its connection to the valley landscape — wide agricultural plains, river systems and subtropical vegetation. Unlike forest-based lodges, the experience here is shaped by openness and movement, with access to outdoor activities such as cycling and river rafting. The property also stands out for its spacious villas, many of which include private plunge pools, a relatively rare feature in Bhutan.
Suites and villas starting from approximately 721 sq ft, with villa categories offering private plunge pools. Interiors combine natural materials with contemporary design, featuring large windows, open layouts and expansive bathrooms. An infinity pool overlooks the valley and surrounding paddy fields. The Six Senses Spa offers wellness programmes and treatments inspired by Bhutanese traditions. Dining includes Bhutanese, regional and international cuisine with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
A visit to Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most significant landmarks, located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. River rafting on the Mo Chhu (seasonal). Cycling through the Punakha Valley. Walks across suspension bridges and through paddy fields. Wellness therapies and spa programmes designed for relaxation and recovery.
October to April offers the most pleasant weather, with warmer temperatures than Bhutan’s higher valleys. Six Senses Punakha is typically combined with Paro and Thimphu, and extended onward to Gangtey or Bumthang as part of a multi-lodge journey across Bhutan.
