Amankora Thimphu is a hilltop lodge set in the quiet Upper Motithang area above Bhutan’s capital, offering a more secluded base than the city centre while remaining within short driving distance of Thimphu’s key sites. The lodge comprises 16 suites built in a style inspired by traditional dzong architecture, with whitewashed walls, timber detailing and Aman's signature minimalist interiors. Surrounded by blue pine forest, it provides a calm entry point into Bhutan’s cultural and administrative heart, and is typically the second stop after Paro on an Amankora journey.
Unlike hotels located within the centre of Thimphu, Amankora Thimphu sits above the city, trading proximity for privacy and space. It offers a quieter, more immersive environment while still allowing easy access to Bhutan’s key cultural landmarks. The lodge functions as a bridge between Bhutan’s traditional and modern identities — from dzongs and monasteries to government buildings and contemporary Bhutanese life — all explored with private guides arranged through the property.
16 suites arranged across a landscaped hillside, each with a bedroom and living space centred around a bukhari (wood-burning stove), terrazzo-clad bath and large windows framing forest views. A spa with treatment rooms, steam and sauna. Dining is all-inclusive, with Bhutanese, Indian and Western menus served in the main lodge or privately. The atmosphere is quiet and residential, with a stronger focus on cultural exploration than resort-style facilities.
Guided visits to Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government and monastic body. A visit to the Buddha Dordenma statue overlooking the Thimphu Valley. Private cultural walks through the capital, including local markets and craft centres. Archery sessions and traditional Bhutanese experiences arranged through the lodge.
March to May and September to November offer the most favourable weather. Amankora Thimphu is typically combined with Paro (1.5 hours) and Punakha (4–5 hours via Dochula Pass), forming the core western Bhutan circuit. It works as the cultural anchor of the journey before moving into more rural valleys.
