Stay Overview

In 1700, Ayutthaya was one of the five largest cities in the world. In 1767, Burmese forces razed it in a year-long campaign — what remained were 400 temples, a ruined palace, and rows of headless Buddha statues whose heads were taken as war trophies. The standard day trip gives it three hours by minibus. The private boat up the Chao Phraya takes two hours each way and arrives at the riverside entrance — the approach that merchants, diplomats, and armies used for three centuries. A specialist guide, a private tuk-tuk circuit, a riverside lunch. Back in Bangkok by 6pm.
